Hello,

These are some quick spelling games that I do with kids from CK04 to MORE2.

Relay spelling:
Split the class into two teams. Give a pen to two kids from opposite teams.
Say a word
the kids have to run up to the board
write and say the word correctly,
sit down and pass the pen to the next kid who does the same.
The first team to finish gets a point.
*you can do this game with sentences where each kid writes a sentence or a word that is part of a sentence

Writing bonanzas:
Version 1
Give a pen to every kid
All the kids have to write up to the board and write the word the teacher says

Version 2
Make two teams
Stick a blank page on the opposite ends of the classroom.(2 pages total)
Have the kids take a pencil.
Tell the kids each team has a page
Say a word
All the kids have to get up and write the word at the same time on their page.
Give a point to the team that does it first or the team that has no spelling mistakes

Hands up:
Give each kid a blank piece of paper (back of recycled paper).
Say a sentence or a word.
The kids have to write as quickly as possible
When they are finish they have to put both hands up and repeat the language
The fastest team/student gets a point or maybe a prize

Cut ups:
Print a page with the pictures of the target language you want the kids to be able to write.
ex:picture of fruits, jobs, base form of a verb(kids can write the past tense)
Cut up the pictures so they are individual.
In class make two teams
Tell them they need to write the word of the picture on the little pieces of paper you have prepared.
One team gives their pictures to you and the other to the TA.
The team with the most pictures at the end wins.
Throw the pictures around the class on the floor, kids pick them up and write!
*if the kid does a spelling mistake they have to write it again.

Re-order sentence:
Make a powerpoint of sentences where the words are mixed up.
Make the kids re-write it in the right order.

FOR LOWER CL/CK kids.

They are just starting to write and even copying a words correctly is a problem for them.
I often just open a word document and put it on the board with the projector.
I write a word or a short sentence and the kids have to quickly and properly copy it on a piece of paper I have given them.

I also make them practice writing their names in the warmer. The last number of my spelling tests for all kids from CK04 to CL03 is to write their names.( the capital letter counts)

On a side note, I make my kids start writing full sentences from CL02.I don't make them copy the vocabulary five times as homework. I make them copy their names,2 sentences and a vocabulary word.

I hope this helps

peace
